The importance of grassroots talks
The importance of getting back to basics was brought into sharp focus at a mid-life women’s health event where at least a third of the audience had never heard of mesh.
Sling The Mesh founder Kath Sansom got involved in grassroots campaigning after being invited to talk at the event at Downham Market in Norfolk.

However, after eight years campaigning, extensive media coverage, Parliamentary debates and the First Do No Harm review, it was a stark reminder of the importance of local events, because at least a third of the audience had never heard of mesh.
This, despite most of the audience having had children.
Additionally, mid-life women are prime targets for seeking treatment for prolapse and incontinence as these conditions tend to worsen when women approach menopause.
The eye-opener has encouraged us to put together Sling The Mesh presentation packs, including a PowerPoint template, for any members who would like to tell their story and raise awareness in their local communities.

The evening included speakers giving advice on the menopause, fitness, nutrition, the law relating to women in the workplace and the risks of surgical mesh. The well-attended event raised more than £500 for West Norfolk domestic abuse charity, The Pandora Project.
