Julie’s story – I wish I’d never had mesh

My journey began in 2010 when I was 42 years old and I had a TVTO sling fitted to fix bladder leaks after having my children. I knew from the start that something was wrong and when I went back to my GP she referred me back to Hospital.

After many appointments and complaints I was told by my consultant that I was unheard of and the only person to ever complain of complications of mesh. After many different tests they said I wasn’t dealing well with pain – like it was my problem! They made out it was all in my head – then told I was just listening to all the media hype! I found some mesh support groups online and was shocked to find so many mesh injured women and men out there.

I wouldnt give up begging my consultant for a scan and finally he arranged video dynamics where the truth was discovered and could see the mesh had curled and folded into a clump on one side and you could see it was put in wrong or had somehow dislodged maybe during placement?

The pain on that side is the worse. I now don’t know if to have it removed as I see women on the support pages who are worse off after removal – that is what is so bad about mesh. You don’t know if removal will make you better or – even worse

I wish Id never agreed to the operation in the first place cos I could have lived with some bladder leaks and used Tena Lady pads.
